Since qualifying as an Occupational Therapist, Samantha has specialised in Paediatrics, progressing quickly to successfully leading a team in her clinical speciality within social care and the private sector. Samantha has knowledge and experience of a full range of complex paediatric areas of input, using a holistic and client centred approach to problem solving, with an aim to maximise independence and quality of life for clients and their families. As a Case Manager, Samantha is able to utilise her specialist knowledge and experience of a high, complex caseload to deliver a full and comprehensive service to paediatric clients who have sustained complex injuries including cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and other physical trauma.

Samantha has extensive experience as an Occupational Therapist in assessment of the home environment, recommending complex intervention to ensure a home is fully accessible, whilst promoting independence and supporting safety for clients and their families. This has included major adaptations (as well as extensions) and minor adaptations, installation of hoists and lifts, shower rooms and ramps, as well as equipment for short term and long term care. Included in this experience are assessments of allocated and void properties offered via the housing register, with adaptations or recommendations for a suitable property being a part of the assessment and intervention process.

Samantha has extensive experience within a range of moving and handling scenarios for clients with physical disabilities, along with completion of comprehensive moving and handling risk assessments and reports. Samantha also has experience with hospital discharges and working with an integrated approach and with a variety of health professionals. Whilst working at a specialist school, Samantha worked with her team to change the way the service was delivered, introducing a clinic based working style to ensure client needs were being met within a high caseload and minimal time allocation.  She has direct experience of completing Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) for a variety of different needs, specialising in complex physical disability. In addition, her clinic-based working included a Seating Assessment and Review clinic, Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) clinic with speech and language therapy, Upper Limb Splinting clinic and Sensory Based Needs clinic with a specialist sensory OT attending for assessments. Samantha is passionate about advocating for her clients and ensuring they receive the most appropriate service and provision to meet their needs.

Samantha has experience as a clinical lead in the private sector, working with an international team to assess the needs of children and adults with complex neurological disability, this includes assessing clients’ postural needs and the provision of bespoke splinting options for the management of upper limb, lower limb and whole-body positioning for maintenance and function. Samantha is committed to ensuring her clinical skills and direct therapy skills remain current and applicable, which also benefits her in her role as Case Manager.

Samantha has predominantly worked in paediatrics however has experience of working with adults part-time in all of her roles, and as part of a holistic assessment of family needs. Historically, Samantha has extensive experience working with chronic and acute mental illness with children, young people and adults in a variety of settings and complex diagnoses. Experience in psychology and counselling is an advantage for any client based work, ensuring a foundation of knowledge of family dynamics and the effects of psychological trauma. Samantha consistently employs reflective practice and undertakes regular CPD relevant to her role and beyond, to ensure she is utilising current best practise and intervention guidance. She is a member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Brain Injury Case Managers (BABICM).
