Rachael is a qualified Occupational Therapist with a background in Education and Psychology. She has developed her skills and knowledge though working across the lifespan in a wide range of settings in the UK, India, USA and Spain. From these experiences she has the knowledge and experience to complete holistic assessments as part of person / family centred approach. As a Case Manager, Rachael manages adults and children who have sustained a wide range of catastrophic injuries, including brain injury, amputation and complex physical and psychological trauma.

Rachael has substantive post graduate experience in Occupational Therapy. She has developed her skills in acute and community settings working with clients with a range of cognitive and physical impairments due to; Multiple Sclerosis, Brain Injury, Stroke, Infections (& associated side effects), Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Fall (& related injuries), Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, Diabetes, Heart Failure, COPD, Cancer, Trauma, Alcohol Abuse, Social Breakdown, Frailty, Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Autism, Global delay, Williams Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy and Developmental Coordination Disorder). She has an excellent understanding of how health conditions impact upon people’s activities of daily living, leisure and work activities.

Throughout her career as an Occupational Therapist, Rachael has managed complex cases through rehabilitation, ongoing support in the community and discharge planning. She has a good understanding of NHS and Social Care processes and is able to work alongside community teams, social workers and care agencies to recommend levels of support and to enable them to lead meaningful lives.

As part of her roles in neuro-rehabilitation, Rachael has experience key working and coordinating patient care. This has required excellent communication skills including liaising with the MDT, families, carers and other agencies to maximise independence for her patients. Rachael’s background in Psychology has assisted her in assessing and treating adults with brain injuries (TBI & Stroke), Dementia and other neurological conditions.

Rachael has demonstrated her abilities to expand the scope of her OT training by taking on roles that require an extended range of skills, working for the complex discharge team. Within these roles she ensured that complex patients were set up with the support they needed to maximise their independence in their home environment. These activities included mobility assessments, completing continuing care documentation and making recommendations for packages of care.

In addition to her OT career Rachael has worked with children by volunteering in a special needs school, running holiday camps for children with disabilities, Camp Counsellor and Teaching Assistant in a special needs school. Later she worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in India and in London, and Nursery School Teacher in Spain.

From an education and psychology background Rachael has an excellent understanding of a child’s development and how they interact with their environment.

Rachael is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), is a professional member of the British Association of Occupational Therapist (BAOT) and a member of the British Association of Brain Injury Case Managers (BABICM).

Rachael is committed to continuing professional development (CPD) and participates in service development, audit, participating in and providing training an in-service attending internal & external training.
